The Post and Telecom Administration (PTA) is responsible for the administration of electronic communications and postal affairs in Iceland.
The Administration is an independent body under the ultimate direction of the Ministry of the Interior. Responsibility for the daily activities of the Administration lies with the Director who is appointed by the Minister of the Interior. The Administration advises the Minister on matters relating to postal matters and telecommunications.
The PTA operates according to the Electronic Communications Act, passed by the Icelandic Parliament in 2003 and the Act on the Post and Telecom Administration No. 69/2003
